Deck Building for 2025 World Championships

July 24, 2025

We wanted to jump in real quick and clear something up a few things as our 2025 World Championship tournaments approach!

Let’s start with the APEX Madness Deck Guide. There’s one section that’s a little too open to interpretation, and we want to make sure everyone’s building fair and playing sharp!

The rule in question reads:

“Next, for every 10 of the following inserts and parallels in their Core Hero Deck the player may add 1 additional card OF THE SAME PARALLEL/INSERT TYPE with any weapon or power (i.e. 1 APEX card of the same insert/ parallel) giving them an Expanded Hero Deck for the event. These parallels and inserts are:

-Inspired Ink Battlefoils
-80’s Rad Battlefoils
-Grandma’s Linoleum Battlefoils
-Blizzard Battlefoils
-Color Battlefoils (Orange, Blue, Green, Pink)
-Bubblegum Battlefoils
-Mixtape Battlefoils
-Miami Ice Battlefoils
-Fire Tracks Battlefoils”

We’ve heard some chatter around the Color Battlefoils line in the APEX Madness Deck Guide, and yes, we see where the confusion came from.

The original idea was this: You’d need 10 of a single color (say, 10 Orange Battlefoils) in your Core Hero Deck to unlock 1 APEX card of that same color.

BUT we’ve heard from plenty of players who read it differently, thinking you just needed any 10 Color Battlefoils combined to unlock 1 APEX Color Battlefoil.

To keep things fair (and fun), we’re allowing both interpretations for this event. No penalties. Just build, battle, and bring your best.

That said, there is one important caveat:

If you use 10 mixed Color Battlefoils to unlock an APEX card, you may not also use 10 of a single color (like 10 Orange or 10 Blue) to unlock a matching APEX card in the same deck. Once mixed, those foils count only toward the general unlock.

This rule is deck-specific, not team-specific. Each deck must meet the requirement independently.

We’ll have this clarified in the official documents moving forward.

Headlines Battlefoils

Only Alpha Edition Headlines are legal for the Silver Headlines bracket this year.

This is intended to be a “lower stress and accessible bracket.” We don’t want people that haven’t been able to purchase Blaster boxes yet (due to our delayed release) to be at a disadvantage.

Alpha Update Silver Battlefoils (from Collector Booster boxes) ARE legal this year.

Thanks for your understanding and see you at The World championships!
